OK, kids. The invites haven’t gone out yet, but I’m sure most of you know that we’ll be hosting another Halloween party this year. As usual, the party will feature karaoke, but with a twist.
A few of us had discussed a “Wheel of Karaoke” that we could use to dictate styles and/or selections. I’ve been thinking about it and I need your input on how this should work.
I don’t think a performer should have to spin the wheel and then have to scramble on the spot to come up with a song that fulfills the demand. So should the wheel be spun to set a tone for a period of performances? Time-based? X number of songs until the next spin? How many? Additionally, what styles should we put on the wheel?
What do you think?

I am formally making a “No Michael Bolton Concert Guarantee.” Right now.
But I can’t guarantee I won’t turn your party into a Michael Bolton concert, WHAMMY!
I do love the “Wheel of Karaoke” idea. But it’s tough to sing a song that you just absolutely don’t remotely even know. So I think there should be a tiny amount of wiggle-room. I do like the ideas of having to do X number of songs, time period, artist, etc.
I’ve been working on my Neil Diamond in the car. I just wanted to throw that out there.

Yeah. I don’t think someone should spin the wheel and then be forced to appease it.
I think the better situation is to just have a representative spin the wheel, and then anyone in the crowd can do what the wheel says. Maybe three such songs before spinning the wheel again? Two seems too few. Four sounds like too many.
Here are the genres I’ve considered so far:
80s
Grunge
Monster ballad
Disco
Country
Duets
Michael Bolton
We’re not limited to a set number of spaces on the wheel, so if you’ve got ideas, let’s hear ‘em.
